The AIA Division I playoffs are in full swing. Mountain Pointe met Pinnacle in the quarterfinals in a game that quickly swung to the Pride’s favor.
The two teams were relatively even in the first quarter, with Pointe taking a 14-10 lead. Then the momentum shifted.
After scoring the only touchdown of the second quarter, Mountain Pointe exploded in the third, marking 21 points. In the fourth, the Pride found the endzone two more times. All the while, the Pride shut out Pinnacle throughout the last three quarters, leading to a 46-point victory.
Senior Brandyn Leonard led the way with 206 yards and two touchdowns on 18 touches. Fellow senior Tyrek Cross carried the ball nine times, gaining 90 yards and three scores.
Advancing to 10-2, Mountain Pointe ranks 40th in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings and 3rd in Arizona.
This win pushes the Pride into the semifinals. Pointe will have its hands full with Chandler next week. The Wolves are ranked 15th in the nation and 3rd in Arizona.
Earlier this year, Mountain Pointe handed Chandler its only loss of the season in and intense 45-42 victory. The Pride will be looking to repeat this on November 21 at 7:00pm.
